‘Apparently Black’ by Torie Begg (1962 - 2022).

Large scale composition consisting of 36x individual artworks.
The process involved repeatedly layering paint in a certain sequence over many, many layers.
This work is catalogued as such: ‘Brush structure red/white/yellow/grey/blue/BLACK x8’.
We’re obsessed with the drip detail, each painting proving slightly different but will exactly the same attention to detail.
There are very few of these examples still in existence. Most were split up into small batches. We’ve included a still from one of Begg’s shows, where she would exhibit up to 200 of these in one display. Sometimes in the corner of a gallery. With each wall and even the ceiling acting as a continuation of the piece.
London born artist TORIE BEGG was a renowned minimalist painter during the 90’s & 00’s. Best known for her ‘Apparently..’ series of paintings, pictured here.
We now have a limited series available for viewing by appointment at our 70 De Beauvoir gallery, a digital catalogue is also available upon request.
